1972 FERRARI DINO 246GT

SOLD

Dino 246’s have to be one of the all time most beautiful cars ever produced. Named in honor of Enzo Ferraris son Dino who lost his life to muscular dystrophy in 1956. Dinos although sold and serviced through Ferrari dealerships never in fact had the name Ferrari on them. Today, as expected they are totally accepted as true Ferrari cars. There beauty can only be matched by there truly great handling. As a city car, they are very easy to drive being very light and maneuverable to get around in. Not the most powerful Ferrari ever built but definitely one of the fun ones to own and drive. Engine size is 2,418 cc being a V6 design with 3 Weber carburetors and rated at 195 horsepower. The transmission is a 5-speed and the engine is mounted transversely in front of the rear axle. Records that we have indicate the car was originally sold through Chinetti Motors in February 1972 to Mr. William Spear of Palm Beach, Florida. In 1978 it was owned by a Mr. Weaver in the Washington DC area and had 20,585 miles on it. Between 1980 and 1994 it appears to have been in San Carlos, CA. owned by a Mr. Bob Waldschmidt who in turn sold the car to Dr. Stephen Habener of Bremerton, WA. In January 1994 at around 38,000 miles. In a 1993 advertisement it was offered for sale with 38,667 miles indicated. The next owner appears to be Mr. Ed Scripps of Woodinville, WA. Who owned it until about 2002. For the next couple of years it was still in the State of Washington area before returning to Santa Monica, California to the most recent owner. The example we have here has undergone a lot of restoration work over the years. In august 2006 the seats were redone in the Daytona style along with new carpeting recovered door panels, center console and rear panel all in leather.  A new Tubi stainless steel exhaust was fitted at the same time for a total of almost $13,000.00.  In April 2007 the carburetors were overhauled. Cosmetically in the mid 1980’s it seems the paint was striped to bare metal and redone along with a mechanical rebuild around the 33,000 mile range. Our example is chassis number 3086. The mileage indicated is believed to be original at 45,739. It has a very period correct Becker Europa AM/FM radio in the dash with a matching Becker Olympia cassette deck below it. It also has the Plexiglas covered headlights. Finished in Rosso Chiaro with tan leather and black highlights.
